“In yesterday’s blog we discussed the importance of the Estate Planning Questionnaire as one of the foundations of quality planning, and the first of many important steps in the estate planning process. Today we will briefly discuss the actual completion of the Questionnaire and the big step that it represents – the magnitude of the Questionnaire and what it means. In essence, fully completing a comprehensive Estate Planning Questionnaire and providing it to your estate planning attorney, oftentimes someone you have known only for a brief time, is analogous to certain aspects of a commitment to marriage or a long-term partnership. You are providing information about the most intimate personal and financial details of your life to another person – this is an extraordinary act. With this in mind, insofar as estate planning is viewed as a mechanical process, the Questionnaire is an essential tool. However, because estate planning is much more than just a series of mechanical steps, the Estate Planning Questionnaire and the extent to which it is completed could be said to represent the level of commitment to partnership, excellent results, and planning that works.”
