“Thought for the Day” #888 – by Stephen R. Elville, J.D., LL.M.

January 20, 2017

Inauguration Day in America brings with it a host of concerns for people across the political, social, and economic spectrums.  Yet with the almost certain changes to come over the next four years will also come opportunity in various forms.  In estate planning and in the world of elder law, opportunity may come in the form of new planning techniques, new ways of thinking, new uses for older strategies, new and better ways of planning for flexibility, greater consumer and public awareness, and other now non-obvious opportunities.  This is not to ignore the reality that pending change may affect many people in a less than positive way.  It is a reminder and affirmation that forthcoming change is not new – we have seen it before and it will not be without new favorable combinations of circumstances.  Whether you will ultimately be positively or negatively affected, be assured that estate planning and elder law attorneys are hard at work in Maryland and across the country anticipating and preparing to react to whatever changes may come, in support of and in the highest and best interests of their clients.
