Being a good health care agent involves advocacy – a difficult, challenging, and unenviable role for many people. As mentioned this week, the first step is knowing and understanding your rights and responsibilities as an agent. The second is strictly personal – your willingness to assume the role of advocate. A good advocate may be respected, but is not often liked. If you are reluctant to assume the role of advocate or feel inadequate to the task, a geriatric care nurse can provide valuable assistance.
