In Maryland health care decision making, many people are not aware that it is possible to make a verbal advance medical directive. It is also possible to make an electronic advance medical directive. Effective October 1, 2016, new Maryland law clarifies and encourages the use of electronic health care decision making, authorizing competent persons to express their wishes regarding the provision of health care electronically and setting forth the parameters and methods for doing so.
