Each of us signs a mini declaration of independence when we implement an advance medical directive and power of attorney in estate planning directing the management of our health care and property affairs – giving birth to the self-direction of our person and property in the event of unforeseen circumstances.  Unlike the decisions faced by the founders of our country that gave birth to a nation, this one is safe and easy.
