Stop Waiting and Start Planning

The Transition Symposium is presented by the Howard County Transition Outreach Partnership, a collaborative effort of Accessible Resources for Independence, The Arc of Howard County, Howard County Autism Society, Howard County Mental Health Authority, Howard County Public School System, Howard County Government, and NAMI Howard County. It offers the knowledge, skills, and resources needed for a successful transition to post-high school employment, education and independent living. The target audience is transitioning youth with all types of disabilities, ages 14 to 24, along with their parents and family members, human service professionals, and educators.
The Symposium will feature a keynote presentation by Michael Smull, a nationally recognized expert in person centered planning. A variety of breakout sessions will highlight topics of interest to transition-age youth with disabilities and the individuals who support them, including but not limited to: • Post-secondary education and career training • Employment • Disability benefit programs • Financial and futures planning • Behavioral health services • DDA services • Transportation • Advocacy • Assistive technology • IEPs
