Elville and Associates’ Lindsay V.R. Moss, Esq., Presents as Faculty Member at NBI “Protecting Assets While Qualifying for Medicaid” Seminar

Lindsay V.R. Moss, Esq., a Columbia, MD elder law attorney with Elville & Associates, was one of three distinguished faculty members of the National Business Institute’s April 24th seminar in Hagerstown, Maryland, titled “Protecting Assets While Qualifying for Medicaid – Safeguard the Financial Future of Elderly Clients.” The seminar offered elder law attorneys who work with seniors and their families an overview of asset protection concepts and crisis management tools they can use to legally and ethically protect assets while facilitating earlier Medicaid eligibility, and provided them a set of crisis-management tool to prevent and correct inadvertent loss of benefits.

Ms. Moss’s presentation topics during the seminar included 1) “Pre-Need Asset Planning,” – Medicaid Planning for Single vs. Married Applicants; Transferring Real Property Without Jeopardizing Medicaid Eligibility; Life Estates; Asset Valuation; Using Life Insurance to Spend Down; Interstate Transfers; Protecting Veterans Benefits; The Gifting Powers in Powers of Attorney; and 2) “Trust-Based Medicaid Planning in Detail” – What Are Medicaid Asset Protection Trusts?; Choosing the Assets for Funding the Trusts; Key Provisions and Sample Trust Language; Asset Protection Trusts and Their Impact on Eligibility; and Using Income-Only Trusts.

Ms. Moss is a VA-accredited attorney, as well as a certified dementia practitioner (NCCDP) and is certified in Alzheimer’s and dementia care (HFAM/MAADS). She represents individuals and families in the areas of elder law, Medicaid, Veterans Benefits, estate planning, special needs planning, asset protection, crisis and pre-crisis planning, and issues associated with adult medical daycare, assisted living and nursing home placement.
